Review: Gabriel – Book Four in the Path of Angels Series by Patricia Josephine

GabrielPoACoverThe end is in sight.

To stop Uriel from freeing Lucifer, Gabriel and his brothers must fall and go to Hell. It is a sacrifice Gabriel is not entirely ready to make. Will he fight alongside his brothers or forge his own path? There is only one choice.

Alexander doesn’t want to help Uriel nor does he trust him, but the angel has promised him a better life. He swore to protect Charlie, and he’ll do whatever it takes. When he meets the archangels and learns the depth of Uriel’s lies, he understands the true meaning of sacrifice. If there’s any hope of stopping Lucifer from being freed, Alexander, Charlie, Zephyr and Lake will have to get to Hell and help Gabriel and his brothers in the fight against Uriel.

The path is finally ending, but the price may be too high.

Review

We all have our favourites when it comes to a series, and though I will always have a soft spot for Michael (he was my first ;-)) Gabriel was definitely worth the wait.

He was the serious one, his personality dark and moody, and yet his commitment to his brothers shone through from book one. In Gabe’s tale, the stakes are already high, and the tension only continues to build towards a dramatic finale. But spending more time with Gabe; understanding his motivations, watching him face his personal demons – was a treat.

It’s fair to say Gabe is a little rough around the edges, and yet his heart – the love he feels for others, that is his best quality. His relationship with Alexander and Charlie is compelling. Their bond is unique and I felt myself drawn to them; moved by the sacrifices each character made – it was heartwarming.

The final book in the Path of Angels series is the perfect conclusion to the tale. I love these brothers; their skills, their heart; their loyalty. I’m genuinely going to miss them.

Meet Gabriel from Path of Angels by Patricia Josephine

This post is bitter sweet for me, because it marks the end of the Path of Angels series, and I’m going to miss the boys!

That said, Gabriel hasn’t had his turn to shine yet, so I’m happy to introduce him. Gabriel –  the fourth and final in the series is now available. The purchase links are directly below.

Patricia would also like to share with you the development of Gabe’s relationship with Charlie, and Alexander. So, over to you, Patricia –

Polyamory

Out of all the relationships in the series, Gabriel having two love interests was a bit scary to write. I’ve read a few stories with multiple partners, but they were considered ménage. It was more about “Woohoo! Threesome!” I did have a scene where I kind of went that way, but that sex got cut. I wasn’t fond of it because I wasn’t sure how to write three people being intimate. Plus, I didn’t want it to seem like they were only together because of sex.

Early on, I knew Gabriel was poly. He always saw himself with more than one person. Of course, being the stubborn guy he is, he didn’t want that known. Part of his journey was accepting his path and accepting himself. I think I grappled with that as much as he did. I’m still not sure how the relationship will be received. I wasn’t attempting to be shocking or out there. It’s just how the story turned out for me.

I think that’s why the sex scene needed to go. That made the relationship too cliché, too much like a shallow sex scene. I do actually know someone in a polyamory relationship. It felt like I was disrespecting that person and their partners by reducing Gabriel to sex. Who am I to judge others?

Review – Jophiel Path of Angels (Book 3) by Patricia Josephine

Jophiel PoA CoverThey must fight to stay on the path.

Joe embraces his duty without fear or hesitation, always ready for the next battle. But the path has never been easy. With Michael’s return, they uncover a truth more dangerous than they ever imagined. Their enemy plans to unleash the devil himself, Lucifer. Help comes in the form of an unlikely alley: a member of the fallen.

Mariangela is trying to make amends by protecting the child she is carrying. After blindly following Lucifer in the rebellion, her misguided allegiance came with a price: banishment from heaven. Now, as she strives for forgiveness in the human world, she must fight to prevent Uriel, a fallen archangel, from using her child to free evil from Hell.

The path becomes a battleground, one which may already be lost.

Review – Jophiel (Path of Angels: Book 3)

Jophiel is the kind of person we can all identify with, whether he brings to mind a sibling or a friend. He’s the joker of the group, the one who needles at you but knows when to quit. In path of angels, Joe enjoys to get a rise out of his brothers – it’s almost a sport. But his loyalty, the fact that beneath the humour lies a sharp focus, that’s Joe’s real strength.

We’ve seen Michael and Zade struggle with their chosen path and, perhaps unexpectedly, Joe rises to the challenge and meets his fate head on. I particularly enjoyed his growing friendship with Lake because, despite the fact Joe rarely takes things seriously, he isn’t afraid to admit when he’s wrong. That’s true character.

When Joe’s visions threaten to spiral out of control, it is Lake who teaches him how to focus his power. They both learn something from the friendship.

Joe is also a charmer, as evidenced when he first meets Mariangela. The author did an excellent job of exploring their connection, and more than that, she brought these characters to life. Mariangela is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Her inner conflict is dealt with beautifully, as is the desperation with which she clings to her faith.

I thoroughly enjoyed the third book in the series. It has all the mystery and suspense of the first two, and there’s a real sense of building to a conclusion.

I’m excited to introduce Jophiel today. We’ve met his brothers Michael and Zadekiel so now it’s time to get to know Joe a little better. I’m sure you’ll love his sense of humour. He already crashed the post (see below), and he enjoys to stir things up in the nicest possible way. So let’s see what Joe has to say about reading the book:

Joe’s Top Five excuses for not reading Jophiel

Hello, Jophiel here. Reading is such a pain, isn’t it? You have to sit for hours on end, your butt goes numb, and you’re forced to use your brain. Ain’t no one got time for that. Fear not, I’m here to help. These excuses are fool proof! You’re welcome.

#5: You’ve been working hard all day and your brain needs a break. Reading won’t do that, but a mindless game like Tetris will.

#4: It’s late at night, so you can’t read then. Reading in the dark is bad for your eyes. Better to put it off until tomorrow. Or next week.

#3: My book is the third in the series. Naturally, if you haven’t read Michael and Zadekiel, you can’t read this one. You will have zero idea what’s going on.

#2: There’s a door in your house that won’t stay open. Or you need to weigh something down. The only thing you have is this book. You have no choice but to not read.

And the #1 reason for not reading this book: The series will become a blockbuster movie. So there’s really no point when one blessed day you’ll be graced with my handsome face on the silver screen.

Of course, Joe is just fooling around, so don’t let him deter you. I loved the third book in the series, and if you come back on Friday I will be reviewing Jophiel.

But now he’s had his say (I’ll get mine Friday), meet the author behind the mischievous archangel – Patricia Josephine:

Review – Zadekiel (Book 2) Path of Angels Series by Patricia Josephine

Zadekiel – Book 2 in the Path of Angels Series

Review

ZadekielPoACoverI enjoyed the conflict which lives within Zade. The desire to do the right thing, even though he is forced into a role he did not want or expect. His brother’s absence hits him hard, but it is the guilt, which weighs heavily in his heart, that makes him question his loyalties. Their final conversation haunts his dreams, signifying his regret.

But Zade is an archangel, and he never backs down without a fight. He’s strong, and tough and fiercely protective. His sense of responsibility, and love for his brothers is one of my favourite things about him.

With Michael gone, the trio continue their mission, though they are clearly lost and falter more than once. They return to the streets night after night, determined to follow the path. I loved the humour, the brotherly affection, and the sense of camaraderie. Even when they disagree, there is a bond which shines through. Zade manages to hold them together, if only by the sheer force of his will!

Zaphyr is a complex woman who I instantly loved. She has a hard exterior, and finds it difficult to trust. This has a lot to do with her unique gift, something which makes her an outsider. When her path collides with Zade and his brothers, she is forced to re-examine everything she believes in. Her wit shines through, and it was fun watching her interact with Zade, Joe and Gabe. She is an atheist, which makes for an interesting dynamic and sparks some delightful tension within the group. Zaphyr challenges Zade in many ways, thought he isn’t daunted by her scepticism. He might not know how to deal with the emotions she evokes in him, but he refuses to give in.

Zadekiel ends on a cliff-hanger, one which makes you hungry for more. The writing flows and is full of expression, with delightful descriptions that bring the world to life and keep you on the edge of your seat.

Introducing Zadekiel – Book 2 in the Path of Angels Series by Patricia Josephine

I’m excited to announce that Zadekiel, Book 2 in the Path of Angles Series is now available. The cover is just fantastic, I’m sure you’ll agree.

ZadekielPoACoverThe path is lost.

With Michael gone, the mantle of leadership falls to Zadekiel. In this time of darkness, with tempers running short, Zade struggles to guide his brothers. Hope comes in the form of a green haired woman with a unique gift. She represents a way back to the path they lost when Michael disappeared.

Zephyr fills books with cryptic poetry, a powerful compulsion, which is more a curse than a blessing. With no control over her ability, she struggles to live a normal life. When she meets Zade, he insists her ability is a gift from God. Reluctantly, she agrees to join the cause–it’s hard to dispute a man with wings.

Now the path is found, but one question remains. Will it lead to further darkness?

Patricia lives with her husband in Michigan, hopes one day to have what will resemble a small petting zoo, has a fondness for dying her hair the colors of the rainbow, and an obsession with Doctor Who.

Here’s a message from Patricia about her decision to include poetry in Zadekiel’s story:

You know what’s crazy? I’m not a poet. I don’t even care to read it much, but I will for a friend. And yet, Zadekiel, I gave Zephyr a gift that makes her write poetry. Funny thing to do to a favorite character. I feel like I should have been kinder.

I guess, what I wanted was something that was short and snappy, that held a lot in a few words. It also had to mesh well with Zephyr’s character. Poetry fit the bill perfectly. A great poem can tell a whole story if done well. Could the style used also tell a lot about the writer? Here’s one of Zephyr’s poems and judge for yourself.

They left behind their home

In you they seek the truth

With dark eyes the path lies

Truth revealed when he speaks

Listen please

Thy breath to keep

Less you sleep eternal sleep

Meet Michael, everyone! The delightful archangel, brought to you by Patricia Josephine

perf6.000x9.000.inddThere is only one path.

Born mortal along with his three brothers, Michael is an Archangel with a specific role: hunt fallen angels and send them back to Hell. He is determined in his mission, never straying from his appointed path, until he meets Lake Divine, and discovers there may be more to his beliefs than blind duty.

But Lake is not who he seems. Offspring of a human and a fallen angel, a Nephilim, Lake must choose his own destiny: give in to the coldness and embrace the dark, or seek the light and rise above the sins of his father.

Two paths lay before them, but only one has the potential to destroy them both.

I shared the cover for Michael, Path of Angels a few weeks ago, and I’m thrilled to announce that Michael’s story is now available on Amazon.

As a release week treat, Patricia shared a character interview with us. So, here’s Michael!

1. Let’s start with the basics. Tell us a bit about yourself and what makes you tick.

Michael: I am a reincarnated archangel. It s my duty to find fallen angels and send them back to hell. There’s not much more to my life than that.

2. Do you have any hobbies, favorite TV shows, books? Anything you fangirl/boy over?

Michael: I suppose I’d sound like a religious fanatic if I said the Bible. It’s not my favorite book anyways. When I was younger I was a big fan of The Hobbit. Always imagined going on an adventure. Which I am on now. There’s no dragon at the end of this journey though and I’m not sure it will ever end.

3. What is one thing from your past you’re most proud of?

Michael: There isn’t one thing I can specify. My past is full of few regrets and lots of happy memories.

4. Let’s play favorites:

Pepsi or Coke?
Michael: Coke. Fizz lasts longer.

Pie or Cake?
Michael: Cake. Got some?

White or dark chocolate?
Michael: Dark. Mmmm.

Playstation 4 or Xbox 1or WiiU?
Michael: Haven’t played any of those. Too busy hunting fallen angels.

Paperback book or ebook?
Michael: I prefer the feel of a real book in my hands.

Summer or winter?
Michael: Summer. The grass, the flowers, it reminds me of Heaven.

Puppies or kittens?
Michael: How can you chose? They’re both cute and cuddly.

Vampires or werewolves?
Michael: Werewolves. They seem the lesser of the two evils.
